Changing a lead's status

How to update where a lead stands — and what happens when you pause a lead or mark it not interested.

Status is the single most important thing to keep updated. It drives what you see, what gets reminded and what managers report on.

Steps

  1. 01

    Click the status circle

    Lead card›Status circle

On the lead card, click the coloured circle by the name (on a phone, the status chip). Pick the new status.
Or click a stage in the stage bar.

You should see: You see "Status updated" and the change is logged in Status change history.
  2. 02

    What each status means

    • New — not contacted yet.
    • In progress — in contact, discovering needs.
    • Awaiting proposal.
    • Proposal sent.
    • Near closing.
    • Closed — deal!
    • Not interested / Irrelevant — won't happen.
    • Follow up later / Paused — not now, but later.
Tip: Your company may have renamed or added statuses.
  3. 03

"Paused" or "Follow up later" — pick when to return

A "When to return to the lead?" window opens: Tomorrow 09:00 · In a week · In two weeks · In a month · Custom date and time….
Optionally add a Reason, then Confirm.

You should see: The lead leaves your active work and comes back by itself on that date, tagged Back from paused.
Tip: Don't know when? Pause without a date — but then you have to remember.
  4. 04

"Not interested" or "Irrelevant" — pick a reason

You're asked why: Too expensive · Chose a competitor · Not a fit · Already a customer or duplicate · Wrong contact details · Fake or spam · Other.
    Confirm with Mark not interested.

Note: When a lead becomes Closed, Not interested or Irrelevant, all its open tasks are marked done automatically.

Questions

Why pick a reason?

Reasons feed the reports — e.g. a manager sees many leads going to a competitor and can act.

I marked "Closed" by mistake.

Just pick the right status. Don't use status changes to open a second deal for a won customer — there's a dedicated button. See Closing a deal & repeat deals.
